Our Story
From the Farm to Your Coffee Cup
Around here, mornings rarely start quietly.
The goats and pigs are ready to eat. The chickens have plenty to say about it. There’s probably a dog or cat underfoot somewhere. And before too much of that gets underway, there had better be coffee.
We’re Laura and Matt Hash, and Udderly Eclucktic Coffee Co. grew from our little farm in Clarkton, North Carolina, our love for a good cup of coffee, and a life that has taken quite a few turns we never saw coming.
Through every one of them, God has been faithful.
This Wasn’t Exactly the Plan
Udderly Eclucktic didn’t begin with a carefully mapped out business plan.
It began with our family, our farm, and a season when God changed the direction of our lives.
Matt retired from the military in 2020 after more than two decades of service. We thought we had a pretty good idea of what the next chapter would look like.
We didn’t.
In 2023, serious health complications, including five bowel perforations, nearly took Matt’s life. What followed were hospital stays, rehabilitation, major changes for our family, and a whole lot of prayer.
During that season, Matt surrendered to God’s call to pastoral ministry.
His health also meant that he would eventually need to step away from teaching JROTC. Once again, the life we thought we had planned looked different.
But we’ve learned something about plans.
Ours may change. God’s purpose doesn’t.
Today, Matt serves as a pastor, and together we’re building a life centered around faith, family, ministry, our farm, and serving the people God puts in our path.
Somewhere along the way, coffee became part of that story too.
Why Coffee?
Honestly, coffee just makes sense for us.
Coffee is there during early morning Bible reading before the day gets going.
It’s around the kitchen table when somebody needs to talk.
It’s what you offer when someone walks through the door, and sometimes it’s the reason they stay for another twenty minutes.
There’s something about pouring another cup that says, “You don’t have to leave yet.”
We like that.
We partner with experienced roasters to offer coffees from around the world, along with blends, flavored coffees, cold brew, and plenty of choices because not everybody likes their coffee the same way.
And around here, being a little different is kind of the point.
But we don’t want to simply sell coffee.
We want to build a business that gives us opportunities to serve people, support families, help ministries, give back when we’re able, and do some good along the way.
For us, that’s what it means to be Roasted with Purpose.
What in the World Is “Udderly Eclucktic”?
Yes, we know.
It’s an unusual name.
But once you know us, it makes perfect sense.
Udderly is a nod to Laura’s love of cows. Cows have been her thing for a long time. If it has a cow on it, looks like a cow, or happens to be an actual cow standing somewhere nearby, she’s probably going to notice it.
Then there are the chickens.
Eclucktic is our farm spin on the word eclectic, with a little “cluck” thrown in for the chickens who seem convinced that everything happening on the farm requires their commentary.
And eclectic fits us pretty well too.
We’re a little bit of everything.
Faith and family. Coffee and farming. Ministry and creativity. Goats, pigs, chickens, cows we love even if we don’t have a pasture full of them, and whatever else we manage to get ourselves into.
Put all of that together and you get Udderly Eclucktic.
It’s a little quirky.
So are we.
The Dream Is Bigger Than Coffee
We love coffee, but the dream behind Udderly Eclucktic has never stopped at selling bags of it online.
We believe our farm can be used for something bigger.
We prayerfully hope to grow it into a place where people can slow down, spend time together, create things, laugh, eat good food, drink good coffee, and enjoy the kind of fellowship that seems harder and harder to find.
The Gathering House
One of those dreams is The Gathering House, a welcoming place centered around coffee, food, fellowship, and conversation.
The Combine
We also envision The Combine, a creative space where people can gather to work on projects, learn, make things, and spend time together.
And because we know how much talent exists in small communities like ours, we’d love to create opportunities for local crafters and artisans to share and sell the things they make too.
We don’t know exactly when all of those dreams will happen or exactly what they’ll look like when they do.
We’re okay with that.
God has taught us more than once that we don’t need to see the whole road to take the next step.
Right now, Udderly Eclucktic Coffee Co. is one of those steps.

From Our Family to Yours
Life has taught us that things can change very quickly.
Plans change. Circumstances change. Sometimes the road in front of you looks nothing like the one you thought you were going to travel.
But we have also seen the faithfulness of God through some of the hardest seasons of our lives.
And we’ve learned how much it matters when people show up for one another.
That’s part of the heart behind this business.
We love our farm.
We love coffee.
We love people.
Most importantly, we love Jesus, and we want whatever we build to reflect the faith, grace, generosity, and purpose He has given us.

You’re supporting a real family, a little farm in North Carolina, and a dream that is still very much being written.
